The Farwah Monrovia FPSO began a maiden voyage when Spanish shipyard Izar launched the vessel across the Bay of Ferrol on Oct. 7. Capable of producing 35,000 b/d, the FPSO is scheduled for delivery to block 137B off Libya in January 2003, with commissioning set for 1Q 2003. The FPSO is expected to service three wells in the first phase of development of TotalFinaElf's field. A fixed platform will take over as the processing facility in three to five years as part of phase two, said Luis Mendez de Lara, Izar's commercial and project management director. At that point, Mendez said, the field, in 100 m of water, could have up to seven more wells. The reservoir will dictate when the FPSO will begin its service as an FSO.
The FPSO contract was awarded in March 2001, and fabrication began in October 2001. The Farwah Monrovia FPSO will be operated by Franship Offshore with GeoServices. Doris Engineering and Exmar were major subcontractors on the project.
"We are the integrator of everything," said Jorge Lopez Novo, project director. "One year ago, there was nothing."
