ZURICH, Switzerland — Late last month, Equinor commissioned MAN Energy Solutions to provide three compressor equipment packages and two spares for use on the Troll A platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

These will replace equipment supplied by another manufacturer and will be fitted within existing outer casings on the platform.

The Troll Field is 65 km offshore Kollsnes, Norway, in a water depth of about 300 m, and it supplied more than 10% of all gas consumed by countries in the EU last year, according to MAN.

Due to changed operating conditions, the aerodynamic flow path within the existing casing has to be redesigned. MAN PrimeServ will manage this program for the mechanical and aero-thermodynamic revamping of three compressors to suit performance, space and delivery time needs.

MAN Energy Solutions’ scope covers supply of the centrifugal rotor, inner casing with internals, and bearings and dry gas seals to be installed in the existing third-party casings.

It will perform engineering and project management as well as onsite services for the bundle exchange and commissioning on Troll A. Delivery of the initial compressor bundle should take place in second-quarter 2025.
