ProfessorEric Mackay of Heriot-Watt University’s Institute of Petroleum Engineering has been awarded the 2017 North Sea Regional Award for Productions and Operations from the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Mackay was nominated for his contribution to bringing together the areas of reservoir simulation and oilfield chemistry. As a PI in the Flow Assurance and Scale Team at Heriot-Watt he oversaw research into a range of oilfield production chemistry issues such as mineral scale deposition and its prevention. He has been examining the detailed differences between the full chemistry of the injected, in situ and produced brines including the brine/rock geochemical interactions, applying innovative methods to production and operations in this technology area.

The 17th annual Subsea Tieback Forum & Exhibition attracted more than 1,700 attendees and 126 exhibitors. The event took place March 21-23, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas, at the newly renovated Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. “Meeting the Challenges” was the 2017 event theme.
Mark Farrow, Offshore Construction Manager, LLOG Exploration, won the best presenter award for his presentation, “Subsea Tiebacks in the GoM - A Private Independents Perspective.”

Wood Group’s recommended all-share offer for Amec Foster Wheeler has received shareholder approval from both companies. The deal remains subject to relevant clearances from competition authorities in certain countries where both companies operate. The transaction is expected to be completed in 4Q 2017.

The integrated team will work alongside clients to increase assurance of successful projects in regards to health, safety and environment, reliability, and efficiency. The partnership is focused on providing “end-to-end” solutions that address the entire life of field across all disciplines: drilling/completion, production/asset, and various intervention solutions.
Kuwait Oil Co.has awarded Petrofac a five-year contract worth more than $35 million to provide specialist technical training and competency development services. Work will be performed in Kuwait by the Training Services team, part of Petrofac’s Engineering & Production Services division. Petrofac will support KOC in reviewing and updating its competency systems and will develop and deliver technical training programs to improve the capability of its operations and maintenance personnel.
Era Group Inc. has placed into service two Leonardo AW189 helicopters in Brazil with Aeroleo Taxi Aero, an Era Group company. The company says that the AW189 meets the latest international safety requirements and benefits from an industry-leading 50-minute “run-dry” capability on the main gearbox, exceeding current certification standards and offering safety and reliability for long range offshore operations.
Statoil UK has awarded Augean North Sea Services a five-year waste management contract, with extension options. This covers all wastes from UK North Sea drilling, hook-up, and production operations (mainly the Mariner field development in the East Shetland basin).

Dassault Systè;mes has acquired AITAC BV, a Dutch company specialized in marine and offshore engineering software. Dassault Systè;mes will fully integrate the Smart Drawings application into its “Designed for Sea” and “Optimized Production for Sea” industry solution experiences based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, used by companies for the design, validation, and manufacturing planning of marine and offshore projects. As part of the deal, the company also acquires 40% of AITAC’s marine and offshore engineering office in Croatia, AITAC d.o.o., a provider of naval architecture and engineering services to major shipbuilders.
Rubicon Oilfield Internationalhas acquired the assets and operating business of World Oil Tools Inc.
Sparrows Group has appointed crane service and maintenance provider, Ginemex, as its authorized service center in Mexico. The partnership will support Sparrows in meeting the requirements of its existing contract with state-oil company PEMEX for servicing and parts provision for more than 60 offshore cranes.
