PSA probes Norwegian Sea rig fire

The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority is investigating a fire which broke out on the semisubmersible West Phoenix last Monday.

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) is investigating a fire which broke out on the semisubmersible West Phoenix last Monday.

At the time the rig was drilling for Equinor in the Norwegian Sea.

The incident occurred in the onboard mud laboratory; the fire was extinguished, and no injuries resulted.

TheWest Phoenix is a Moss Maritime CS50 design semi operated by North Atlantic Drilling.

PSA’s team will seek to clarify the course of events leading up to the fire; determine the actual and potential consequences; and identify the direct and underlying causes.
