Production begins from Stampede field in US Gulf of Mexico

CNOOC Ltd. reports that production has begun from the Stampede field in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

HONG KONG – CNOOC Ltd. reports that production has begun from the Stampede field in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico.

The Stampede field is located approximately 185 km south of Fourchon, Louisiana. It is positioned in approximately 1,066 m of water, with a reservoir depth of 9,100 m.

The facility is designed for a gross topsides processing capacity of approximately 80,000 b/d of oil, 40 MMcf/d of natural gas per day, and 100,000 bbl of water injection capacity per day.

Under the current development scope, production facilities will consist of six subsea production wells and four water injection wells tied back to a TLP. Three production wells are currently completed, and production is expected to ramp up through 2018.

Nexen Petroleum Offshore U.S.A. Inc., a wholly owned affiliate of CNOOC Ltd., has a 25% working interest in the Stampede field. Hess Corp., Union Oil Co. of California, a subsidiary of Chevron Corp., and Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC, each have a 25% working interest. Hess is the operator.
