BP commissions Sparrows to manage offshore Angola cranes

BP has awarded Sparrows Group a three-year contract to manage crane operations and maintenance on two FPSOs offshore Angola.

ABERDEEN, UKBP has awarded Sparrows Group a three-year contract to manage crane operations and maintenance on two FPSOs offshore Angola.

The contract covers four cranes on theGreater Plutonio and PSVM vessels in respectively blocks 18 and 31, 160 km (99.4 mi) northwest of Luanda.

Sparrows operated two bases in Angola at Talatona and Malonga, and began working with BP in the region in 2006.

Under the new award it will provide crane operators, maintenance, repair and refurbishment, comprehensive deck services, and control and certification of fixed and portable lifting equipment.

It will also be responsible for full project management, planning and coordination, technical support, and training.

Offshore personnel will in addition support helicopter operations, fire-fighting and maintenance of onboard safety equipment.
