HOUSTON– AVEVA has acquired intellectual property rights to the engineering design database and design productivity software EDD and PDMSi, developed by Shell International Exploration and Production.
EDD is designed to improve project efficiency by automating design processes, providing time and cost savings.
The PDMSi application layer, AVEVA adds, cuts drawing production time by up to 85%, as proven on variousShell deepwater projects.
Bert Natalicchio, vice president Engineering & SMART, Shell said: “Collaboration…is crucial if we are to drive innovation in the oil and gas sector and create a safer and more efficient industry.
“AVEVA’s entire software portfolio can be used by EPCs on Shell capital and operational projects and may be used within the Shell ProjectVantage ecosystem platform.”
AVEVA plans to extend the EDD and PDMSi improvements and efficiency gains to its standard software portfolio, and to make these available to its EPC client plant operators.
The company and Shell and AVEVA have worked together on R&D of 3D design solutions and intelligent visualization software to create, manage, and maintain physical assets. Most of Shell’s upstream offshore and downstream operating assets were designed using AVEVA technology, the company claims.
Its stated goal is that for every physical asset, there should be a digital asset orDigital Twin, to increase the asset’s operating efficiency by improving data quality and consistency throughout the asset life cycle.
