OSLO – Statoil has approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for well campaigns at three North Sea fields.

The semisub Deepsea Atlantic will perform drilling and completion of production wells (34/8 D-2H and 34/8 D-4H/AH) on the northern part of the Visund oil and gas field, east of Snorre in the northern Norwegian North Sea.

Operations should start in March and continue for around 165 days, in a water depth of 378 m (1,240 ft).

Visund started production in 1999 through the Visund A semi-submersible quarters, drilling and processing platform. The field’s northern part was developed via a subsea template, 10 km (6.2 mi) north of Visund A.

Elsewhere, the Island Wellserver and Island Frontier vessels will undertake well intervention activities at the Sigyn and Johan Sverdrup fields, the consent applying from March 1, 2018 through March 31, 2020.

Johan Sverdrup is due to start production in 2019.

Statoil assumed operatorship last year of Sigyn from ExxonMobil: the field is in the Sleipner area of the central Norwegian North Sea, and produces via a subsea template tied back to Sleipner Øst.

In addition, Statoil has the PSA’s authorization for injectivity tests, a new activity for the two vessels, which involves testing and logging the injection of water into the reservoir.
