FLORENCE – Baker Hughes GE (BHGE) will supply turbomachinery equipment for the replacement platform topsides for Maersk Oil’s Tyra field redevelopment in the Danish North Sea.

The package will include seven compression trains featuring BCL centrifugal compressors driven by GE Power high speed electric motors; three gas turbine generator sets; and two turbo expanders.

The compressor technology will employ an active magnetic bearing (AMB) solution for both driver and driven equipment: BHGE will supply AMB applications through its license-based partnership with magnetic bearings technology specialist SKF.

According to BHGE, the AMB/high-speed electric motor configuration provides Maersk with an optimized, oil-less solution that eliminates the need for lubricant materials and reduces the weight, footprint and maintenance costs of equipment on the topsides.

As for the power generation equipment, BHGE will provide an aeroderivative gas turbine, based on GE Aviation’s aircraft engines and said to be a lighter, compact and more efficient option.

This equipment will be manufactured and tested at the BHGE Turbomachinery & Process Solutions centers in Florence, Italy and Le Creusot, France.
