SINGAPORE – Statoil has awarded Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters a $490-million turnkey EPC contract for the hull and living quarters for the newbuild FPSO for the Johan Castberg project, 240 km (149 mi) offshore Hammerfest in the Barents Sea.
The FPSO’s hull will be around 55 m (180 ft) wide and 295 m (968 ft) long. It will be self-contained for harsh-environment operation, with the quarters accommodating up to 140 personnel.SBM Offshore is responsible for the vessel’s turret mooring system.
Sembcorp Marine has subcontracted Aker Solutions for design of the living quarters.
The work scope includes detailed design engineering of the living quarters and technical specifications for the equipment and supplies required for Sembcorp to construct the accommodation unit.
Aker Solutions EVP Knut Sandvik said: “We will build on our previous work on the development to optimize the design of the living quarters.”
Aker Solutions has been involved in the Castberg development since its earliest phases, providing concept studies and front-end engineering design that according to the company have helped drive down costs.
Earlier this week it won additional contracts from Statoil to supply the subsea production system and design the FPSO’s topsides.
It will split work on the accommodation unit between its locations in Oslo and Mumbai, with delivery scheduled for the second half of 2018.
The full project is scheduled for completion in 1Q 2020.
