Shell adds Transocean drillship in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico

ZUG, SwitzerlandTransocean Ltd. has issued an update on its offshore drilling rig fleet.

The newbuild ultra-deepwater drillshipDeepwater Pontus recently began its 10-year contract with Shell in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The company agreed with Sembcorp Marine’s subsidiaryJurong Shipyard to enhance the two, newbuild ultra-deepwater drillships by increasing the hook load capacity to 3 million lbs. With the upgrade, the company has further delayed the delivery dates on each rig. They are expected to be delivered in 2Q and 4Q 2020.

In the US Gulf of Mexico, BHP Billiton has awarded the ultra-deepwater drillshipDeepwater Invictus a two-year contract plus three one-year priced options. The contract is expected to start in April 2018.

Offshore Southeast Asia, the ultra-deepwater semisubmersibleDeepwater Nautilus has received a four-well contract plus 11 one-well priced options. It is expected to start next month.

In the UK North Sea, the Hurricane Energy has awarded the harsh environment semisubPaul B. Loyd, Jr. a two-well contract plus three one-well priced options. The contract is expected to begin in March 2018.

Also in the UK North Sea, Zennor Petroleum Ltd. has awarded thePaul B. Loyd, Jr. a two-well contract plus two one-well priced options. This contract is expected to begin in May 2018.

The ultra-deepwater drillshipsDeepwater Asgard, Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2, and the ultra-deepwater semisub Development Driller III were classified as idle.
