LONDON – Eni has contracted the ultra-deepwater drillship Saipem 12000 for an exploratory well in Morocco’s Rabat Deep offshore permit.

According to partnerChariot Oil & Gas Ltd., the vessel will drill the RD-1 well, targeting the JP-1 prospect.

It should arrive on location late in 1Q 2018 and start drilling soon thereafter.

JP-1 prospect is a large, four-way dip closed structure extending over around 200 sq km (77 sq mi) with Jurassic carbonate primary reservoir objectives, though to hold potentially 768 MMbbl of resources.

This January Eni took charge of the license, offering Chariot a capped carry on drilling of JP-1 and other geological and administrative costs relating to the concession.
