HAUGESUND, Norway – The completed drilling support module (DSM) for Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea has departed Aibel’s North Sea Hall in Haugesund.
Following cleaning and welding to the transportation barge stationed alongside the quay, the vessel was due to take the DSM to the Klosterfjorden for connection to two other modules which together will comprise Sverdrup’s drilling platform.
Aibel cut first steel for the 8,000-ton DSM in Haugesund in February 2016. The completed structure almost reached the roof of the North Sea Hall, leaving only 10 cm clearance from the top of the module to the upper door casing of the assembly hall.
For the roll-out, Aibel deployed 1,152 wheels.
