ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Deepsea Bergen has spudded the Goanna exploration well 39/9-22 S in Norwegian North Sea license PL 881 for operator Wellesley Petroleum.

According to partner Faroe Petroleum, the license, awarded this February, is in the Tampen area, close to the maritime median line with the UK and the producing Statfjord and Snorre fields, which offer the potential for export routes in the event of a commercial discovery.

The well will target a structural and stratigraphic prospect of upper Jurassic Munin formation sandstones. Faroe’s cost will be carried by Wellesley up to the budgeted dry hole price.

Faroe will participate in further wells on the Aerosmith prospect and theFogelberg appraisal well at year-end/early 2018.
