DUBLIN, Ireland – The drillshipStena IceMAX has penetrated the Paleocene Druid prospect, 220 km (137 mi) offshore southwest Ireland, with well 53/6-1.

According to operatorProvidence Resources, the well has been safely drilled to the target depth, but initial petrophysical analysis of logging-while-drilling data indicates that the structure comprises a porous water-bearing reservoir.

In line with the pre-drill plan, the well will be deepened into the Lower Cretaceous Drombeg exploration target, roughly 1,000 m (3,281 ft) beneath Druid.

The location is in frontier exploration license FEL 2/14.
