DUNDEE, UK – Forth Ports Ltd. and AF Offshore Decom UK intend to form a new joint venture, AF Dundee.
The aim is to create a North Sea oil and gasdecommissioning hub in Dundee, south of Aberdeen, with its nucleus at the city’s port.
Over the past 15 years AF Offshore Decom UK has worked on North Sea decommissioning projects such asConocoPhillips’ Ekofisk 2/4T, Statoil’s H7/B11, and most recently CNR’s Murchison.
It is a subsidiary of AF Gruppen, which operates the AF VATS Environmental Base in Norway, claimed to be the North Sea’s most advanced facility for wide-ranging decommissioning of offshore installations.
ThePort of Dundee, owned by Forth Ports, is close to many UK North Sea oil and gas fields, with established rail and road links, port facilities, and an on-site supply chain.
An ongoing £10-million ($13-million) quay extension will feature what is said to be the UK’s strongest quayside, designed to handle large-scale loads associated with decommissioning operations.
Dundeecom, the public/private partnership between Dundee City Council, DC Thomson and Forth Ports, arranged the new collaboration.
