Aramco sets stage for dredging of maritime complex

DHAHRAN, Saudi ArabiaSaudi Aramco has contracted a consortium comprising Saudi Archirodon Co. and Huta Hegerfeld AG Saudia Co. to perform dredging and reclamation work.

This is the first major undertaking at the newKing Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries and Services in Ras Al-Khair, which when completed will offer vessel and rig build, maintenance, repair and overhaul services.

The consortium will conduct dredging and reclamation of around 37 MMcm of fill, in addition to ground improvement over an area of 7.4 MM sq m (80 MM sq ft).

In addition, the contract will provide for construction of 4,500 linear meters of concrete quay walls and wharves, in addition to 12,000 linear m of rock revetments and breakwaters to protect the integrity of the complex.

Execution of the contract’s initial phase should be completed by 2020. It will prepare the project’s land for subsequent construction of a dry dock and ship building and maintenance facilities.
