DUBLIN, Ireland – DownUnder GeoSolutions in Australia has completed analysis of new 3D seismic over block FEL 3/14 in the northern Porcupine basin, offshore western Ireland.

PGS acquired around 1,400 sq km (540 sq mi) of 3D data for operator Woodside Energy and partner Petrel Resources.

Petrel expects the final pre-stack depth migration seismic to be submitted to Woodside by the end of July.

Woodside will perform advanced 3D seismic interpretation of various pre-rift and syn-rift unconformities, with a view to de-risking identified Jurassic and Cretaceous plays that may lead to one or more well commitments under the second work phase, which runs through end-August 2022.

Water depths over the survey area were 500-1,300 m (1,640-4,265 ft), but the likely depth range for Petrel’s targets is 600-800 m (1,968-2,624 ft). The company points out that these are relatively shallow for modern drilling and development, which should facilitate the economics of any discovery.
