PARISTotal is to undertake a feasibility study of SpotDetection, which won French oil and gas suppliers association EVOLEN’s innovation award for 2016.

This is a decision-making tool developed by SpotLight, based on what is claimed to be a unique seismic source/receiver couple, designed to help detect in real time changes in a critical subsurface area.

The system is said to lead to reduced costs and environmental impact while at the same time providing access to reliable, localized, and timely information on subsurface changes.

Benoît Mathis, head of innovation at Total Exploration & Production, said: “If SpotLight’s dynamic detection solution is proven, it matches a real need: not only to precisely know all information on the subsurface while reducing costs, but also a first step to open and frugal innovation, a trend that is bound to become a must in future years in the energy industry.”
