ABERDEEN, UK – First gas has flowed on schedule from Cayley, the third and final discovery to come onstream as part of the Montrose Area Redevelopment (MAR) in the UK central North Sea.
OperatorRepsol Sinopec Resources UK expects production from Cayley, Godwin, and Shaw (onstream last month) to peak at 40,000 boe/d, extending the life of the Montrose facilities beyond 2030.
MAR also involved construction of a new production platform (BLP) connected by a bridge to the Montrose Alpha platform which started operations in 1976. The BLP provides additional process and plant support facilities.
Godwin had been developed earlier via an extended-reach well from the Arbroath platform, also connected to Montrose Alpha, whileCayley and Shaw are both subsea tiebacks to the BLP.
Over time the project should harness up to 100 MMboe of additional production, including through life extension of legacy fields.
Brian Winton, general manager, Montrose and Arbroath, said: “With the support of our shareholders and our partner Marubeni we have overcome significant technical and legacy challenges to safely maximize economic recovery from these historic fields and facilities. We can now look forward to hub production from Montrose for another 15 years.”
The Montrose Area, comprising the Montrose, Arbroath, Arkwright, Brechin, Carnoustie, Wood, Godwin, Shaw, and Cayley fields in blocks 22/17, 22/18, 22/22, and 22/23, 200 km (124 mi) east of Aberdeen.
