OSKARSHAMN, Sweden – Alcad Vantex is supplying nickel technology batteries to provide backup power for uninterruptible power supply on the Su Tu Den unmanned wellhead platform A offshore southern Vietnam.

Cuu Long Joint Operating Co., a partnership between PetroVietnam, ConocoPhillips, Korea National Oil, SK Corp., and Geopetrol, operates Su Tu Den.

Alcad has supplied 100 Vantex VTX1 M 270 nickel-based cells, with a rated capacity of 270 Ah – enough to support 90 minutes of autonomous backup power for the platform’s control and safety systems – along with design, commissioning, and testing services.

Compared with lead‐acid batteries, the nickel‐based battery offers a long and predictable service life of up to 20 years, Alcad claims, with no risk of “sudden‐death” failure.

The cells are also said to be maintenance‐free, with no requirement for routine topping‐up with water, while their capacity for fast charging is said to further reduce potential downtime.
