BICESTER, UK – Salunda has introduced the MudChecker analyzer, designed to improve traceability of drilling fluid test results.

The handheld instrument – said to be the first of its type – can be used on a drill site, in a mud plant or a mud lab to swiftly provide data on mud properties, which Salunda says is critical to fast, safe, and accurate drilling.

The MudCheckers’s sensor technology is also said to avoid the need to wait hours in order to complete a retort and titration mud check.

Data, with a date and time stamp, is logged electronically, avoiding the need for results to be recorded manually. This ensures, Salunda adds, that data from each well and sample is recorded automatically after testing, allowing drilling engineers to show traceability in the event of an audit.

The data captured can be quickly uploaded via a USB interface to a supporting software program and exported for formal record keeping and reporting.

Contractors revisiting a site can also use the data to confirm the composition of the previously used drilling fluid, using it to help determine what is currently required.

MudChecker’s results, said to be consistent and repeatable, can be recalled quickly to indicate percentage oil, solid, and water volumes.

In addition, the system records the oil/water ratio, oil/brine ratio and water-phase salinity. Control of these parameters can be critical for kick detection, as well avoiding wellbore collapse.
