PORVOO, Finland – Rosneft has signed a cooperation agreement with Lamor Corp. at the IV International Arctic Forum in Arkhangelsk, Russia.
They will assess prospects of localized production of oil spill response (OSR) equipment and machinery forRussia’s Arctic region. The plan is to have at least 70% of production performed locally by 2025, with the equipment to be manufactured at a Rosneft shipbuilding facility.
In addition, the companies plan joint production of specialist floating craft, equipment for oil spill recovery at sea and on land, oil containment booms, and other items.
Fred Larsen, president and CEO of Lamor, said: “We have service centers in Russia to provide maintenance and support for OSR equipment - Ecoshelf in Sakhalin and Ecoshelf-Baltika in St Petersburg - that have been in operation for 18 years. Joint production with Rosneft takes our presence in the Russian market to another level.”
Rosneft has 28 licenses across the Russian Arctic shelf covering a total area of more than 1 million sq km (386,000 sq mi).
Prior to initiating exploration the company commissions environmental studies on weather, ice conditions, ice flow, characteristics of the fauna, and related fields, and is said to operate a systematic approach to environmental safety aimed primarily at prevention of emergency situations.
Lamor and Rosneft will manufacture equipment both for Rosneft projects and for third-party customers.
