PSA approves operations through Norwegian Sea gas pipeline

OSLO, NorwayPetroleum Safety Authority Norway has authorized Norwegian offshore trunklines operator Gassco to use the Polarled pipeline.

This is a new gas pipeline from theAasta Hansteen field location in the Norwegian Sea to the Nyhamna gas-processing facility in Møre og Romsdal county, western Norway.

It will be used to transport gas from this and other fields in the area. The Polarled JV owns the pipeline, which is 481 km (299 mi) long and 36-in. diameter.

Statoil is operator for the development, while Gassco takes over operatorship once work gets under way to de-water the pipeline and fill it with gas, due to start on May 15.

The pipeline will then be left gas-filled until gas deliveries from Aasta Hansteen beginning in fall 2018.
