OSLO, Norway– The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has launched an investigation into a lifting incident on the Gullfaks B facility that occurred on March 7.
The safety agency said that part of the Eagle Arm crane on the North Sea platform came loose and fell to the pipedeck. According to the notification from operator companyStatoil, the load on the crane weighed 17 metric tons and the drop height was 10 m (33 ft).
No personal injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
The PSA has already dispatched its investigation team to Gullfaks B, it said. Among other goals, the agency said the team will “seek to clarify the course of events and identify direct and underlying causes in order to contribute to learning and experience transfer.”
Earlier this week, the PSA closed its investigation into a recent fire that occurred aboard Statoil’sStatfjord A platform, identifying regulatory breaches.
