ASKER, Norway – TGS and PGS have started the northwest African Atlantic Margin (NWAAM 2017) 2D seismic survey**. They plan to acquire more than 11,500 km (7,146 mi) of long offset, broadband 2D data over the MSGBC basin.

The survey is designed to infill, extend, and support the NWAAM 2012 2D survey, which TGS says assisted the recent commercial deepwater discoveries in the MSGBC basin.

Elsewhere, TGS says it completed its sixth consecutive season of data acquisitionoffshore eastern Canada late last year in partnership with PGS.

The two companies acquired 41,800 km (25,973 mi) of 2D seismic and added 2,300 sq km (888 sq mi) of 3D data offNewfoundland and Labrador under the 2016 campaign.

During 4Q, TGS also completed acquisition of the 186,000-km (115,575-mi)Gigante 2D regional seismic survey offshore Mexico, and issued fasttrack data for the country’s December 2016 licensing round. The contractor expects to continue processing data the data throughout 2017.

In addition, TGS has started the Otos multibeam and seep study project in the US Gulf of Mexico.

This is the first stage of a seep and geochemistry program covering the US Gulf of Mexico. The survey is designed to mirror theGigante multibeam and seep study in the Mexican Gulf of Mexico, conducted in 2016.

The new program will cover approximately 289,000 sq km (111,584 sq mi) and will include 250 cores with advanced geochemistry analysis. TGS will continue to work with the same acquisition providers as in the Mexico program, Fugro (multibeam) and TDI Brooks (coring and geochemical analysis).

Final results in all areas are expected to be available in late 2017. This project is supported by industry funding.
