BIV to analyze gas potential of two Persian Gulf fields

National Iranian Oil Co. and Malaysia’s Bukhary International Ventures have signed a memorandum of understanding to perform studies of two fields in the Persian Gulf.

TEHRAN, IranNational Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) and Malaysia’s Bukhary International Ventures (BIV) have signed a memorandum of understanding to perform studies of two fields in the Persian Gulf.

BIV will submit the results to NIOC within seven months.

The Golshan gas field is one of NIOC’s most recent discoveries, situated 65 km (40 mi) offshore and around 180 km (112 mi) southeast of Bushehr. Estimated in-place volumes are 42-56 tcf.

The Ferdowsi gas field is another recent discovery of the NIOC, 85 km (53 mi) offshore and 190 km (118 mi) southeast of Bushehr.

Both fields also contain oil, but BIV will study recovery of the gas and its transfer to onshore facilities, according to Gholamreza Manouchehri, NIOC’s deputy of development and engineering.

News service Shana reported in a separate announcement that a planned pipeline to take gas across the Persian Gulf fromIran to Oman should come onstream by 2020. 

Iran will export 28 MMcm/d to Oman over 15 years through the pipeline.
