US Gulf of Mexico rig count down by one to 23

The US Gulf of Mexico rig count decreased by one over the past week to reach 23.

HOUSTON – The US Gulf of Mexico rig count decreased by one over the past week to reach 23, according to the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of Jan. 20, 2017. That number is down by six year-over-year.

The overall US offshore drilling rig count was a bit higher but also decreased. The decline in the Gulf rig count pushed the overall US offshore rig count down by one to 24. That number is also down by five year-over-year.

The overall US rig count, onshore and offshore, was up by 35 week-over-week at 694, with oil rigs up by 29 to 551, gas rigs up by six to 142, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at one.

Compared to this time last year, the overall US rig count is up by 57, with oil rigs up by 41, gas rigs up by 15, and miscellaneous rigs up by one.
