US Gulf of Mexico rig count up by one to 24

The US Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by one over the past week to reach 24.

HOUSTON – The US Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by one over the past week to reach 24, according to the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of Jan. 13, 2017. That number is down by two year-over-year.

The overall US offshore drilling rig count was a bit higher, with the addition of one rig working offshore Alaska. That rig plus the Gulf rig count pushed the overall US offshore rig count up by one to 25. That number is also down by one year-over-year.

The overall US rig count, onshore and offshore, was down by six week-over-week at 659, with oil rigs down by seven to 522, gas rigs up by one to 136, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at one.

Compared to this time last year, the overall US rig count is up by nine, with oil rigs up by seven, gas rigs up by one, and miscellaneous rigs up by one.
