PETERHEAD, UKMaritime Developments Ltd. (MDL) has sent its new four-track pipelay tensioner to the Asia/Pacific region to serve a contract for an unnamed offshore contractor.

The portable 110-metric ton (121-ton) system, unveiled recently at the company’s testing facility in Peterhead, eastern Scotland, will be used for an umbilical installation in the Indian Ocean, to transition 28 km (17.4 mi) of product from the beach to seabed, at 300 m (984 ft) water depth.

MDL Offshore Service’s team will operate the tensioner, with the campaign expected to finish in early March.

The caterpillar-track TTS-4/310 series tensioner retains what are claimed to be the unique safety and operational features ofMDL’s four-track tensioner range: these include a failsafe grip system, a self-centering track system, and a modular, road-transportable design.

It is also said to be more compact than the traditional market offering for the equivalent working loads, which commonly calls for two smaller tensioners for like-for-like operations.

The system is also the largest delivered by MDL to date, and its second TTS-4 to have operated in theAsia/Pacific region.
