OSLO, Norway – Sembcorp Marine has contracted Tamrotor Marine Compressors (TMC) to supply compressed air systems to the newbuild crane vessel Heerema Sleipnir.

Scope of work includes manufacturing and delivery of a marine compressed air system, including Smart Air service air compressors, service air dryers, control air compressors, and control air dryers.

TMC claims the Smart Air compressors save up to 50% on total energy costs compared to conventional compressors.

Managing director Per Kjellin said: “Given the size of theHeerema Sleipnir, and the giant operations she will be in charge of, it is vital to have reliable and well-functioning compressors on board.”

TheHeerema Sleipnir, which is designed for offshore heavy-lifting worldwide, will have two cranes, each with 10,000 metric tons (11,023 tons) lifting capacity and a reinforced deck area 220 m (722 ft) long and 102 m (334 ft) wide.

The dual cranes will facilitate installation and removal of jackets and topsides, but they will also be available for installation of foundations, moorings, and structures in deepwater.

Sembcorp is building the vessel, said to be the largest of its type to date, in Singapore, with delivery toHeerema Marine Contractors scheduled for 2018.
