NEW ORLEANS – The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) says that it is responding to a fire that occurred this morning on the SS266A oil production platform in the Ship Shoal area of the Gulf of Mexico.
Operator Renaissance Offshore LLC reported that a fire occurred at about 2:25 a.m. on the platform about 80 mi (129 km) southwest of Grand Isle, Louisiana. By 5:50 a.m., the fire had been extinguished and none of the four persons on board were injured.
BSEE reports that the four were evacuated by life raft, recovered by the offshore supply vesselMary Wyatt Milano, and flown to Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma, Louisiana, for medical evaluation.
The US Coast Guard reports that the crew of theMary Wyatt Milano and three other offshore supply vessels assisted in fighting the fire.
As a result of the fire, production has been shut in on both the A and B platforms, which are co-located and operated by Renaissance.
There is no visible oil sheen reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
