US Gulf of Mexico rig count rises to 24

The US Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by two over the past week to reach 24.

HOUSTON – The US Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by two over the past week to reach 24, according to the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of Dec. 23, 2016. That number (24) is the same as it was this time last year.

The overall US offshore drilling rig count was a bit higher, with the addition of one rig working offshore Alaska. With that rig and the increased two in theGulf, the overall US offshore rig count increased by three over the past week to reach 25. That number was up by one year-over-year.

The overall US rig count, onshore and offshore, was up by 16 week-over-week at 653, with oil rigs up by 13 to 523, gas rigs up by three to 129, and miscellaneous up by one.

Compared to this time last year, the overall US rig count is down by 47 rigs, with oil rigs down by 15, gas rigs down by 33, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at one.
