TEHRAN, IranPhase 21 of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf should become operational by late December, once laying has been completed of the subsea pipeline for delivering sour gas to onshore refining facilities.

An official for the project, Alireza Ebadi, told news service Shana that the Phase 21 platform will initially produce 28.5 MMcm/d.

The second gas sweetening train at the refinery handling output fromphases 20 and 21 is operational and ready to receive the gas, he added.

The two sweetening trains have a capacity to process 14 MMcm/d in total.

As for Phase 20’s platform, this is currently being installed at the offshore location and will come online in February, Ebadi said.

Phases 20 and 21 are designed to supply 50 MMcm/d of processed natural gas for domestic consumption, along with associated products.
