Petronas details deepwater Mexico work plans

Petronas has won shares of two blocks in the Salina basin offshore Mexico under the country’s first auction of its deepwater exploration areas.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Petronas has won shares of two blocks in the Salina basin offshore Mexico under the country’s first auction of its deepwater exploration areas.

The company is operator of block 4, under a 50:50 partnership with Sierra Oil & Gas, and has a 23.34% stake in block 5, operated byMurphy Sur.

Block 4 covers 2,600 sq km (1,004 sq mi) in water depths of 800-1,600 m (2,624-5,249 ft). During the initial four-year exploration period the focus will be on seismic data acquisition and processing.

Block 5 spans 2,600 sq km in water depths of 700-1,100 m (2,296-3,609 ft). Here commitments during the initial four-year period include one well.
