GODALMING, UK – Hurricane Energy’s initial analysis of its Lincoln exploration well west of Shetland suggests a substantial fractured basement oil discovery.
CEO Dr. Robert Trice said pre-drill hopes of 250 MMbbl of oil may prove to be conservative.
Well 205/26b-A encountered hydrocarbons at the depth of the planned total depth, leading to deepening of the well.
Gas chromatography and logging while drilling data indicate a significant hydrocarbon column of at least 660 m (2,165 ft) TVD, comparable to that found at Hurricane’s nearbyLancaster field.
The oil down to (ODT) was observed at roughly 520 m (1,706 ft) TVD below structural closure, 168 m (551 ft) TVD below the ODT in the 205/21-1 well that Arco drilled on Lincoln’s flank in 1995.
The semisubmersibleTransocean Spitsbergen is currently P&A’ing the well prior to demobilization to the next well location in the area on the Halifax structure.
Lancaster is due to undergo anearly production system next year.
