DUBLIN, IrelandProvidence Resources has made progress on its plans to drill a well on the deepwater Druid prospect offshore southwest Ireland.

Recently the company completed evaluation of available/capable deepwater rigs via a tender process. In line with EU procurement rules, the company has now issued a letter of intent to the leading contender, and hopes to finalize a contract over the coming weeks.

The well will be drilled in frontier exploration license 2/14 in the southern Porcupine basin, 220 km (137 mi) offshore in around 2,250 m (7,382 ft) of water.

This contains the Palaeocene Druid and Lower Cretaceous Drombeg exploration prospects.
