ABU DHABI, UAE – Lower completions specialist Reactive Downhole Tools has executed an oil swellable packer installation for a major operator in Abu Dhabi.
The 19,000-m (62,336-ft) liner is said to be a world-record for the liner type.
In theMiddle East the length of wells is continually increasing, the company points out, making it difficult for operators to find packers with a sufficiently long delay time to allow the liner to travel to depth, in addition to allowing circulation of breaker fluids, before production begins.
Reactive’s long-delay oil swell packer for this application involved a new compound design.
CEO Mike Allen said: “We not only manufactured and delivered the packer from Houston to Abu Dhabi with an exceptionally quick turnaround, but the successful mechanism allowed the operator to drill deeper and further than ever before.”
