OSLO, Norway – A report by the Petroleum Safety Authority explains why there has been a sharp rise in documents generated from operations on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The project delivered valuable insights into the growing requirements and how the trend might be reversed, according to Bjørn Thomas Bache, one of the PSA’s directors of supervision.
“Extensivedocumentation in the petroleum industry could represent a possible safety risk,” he suggested. “Key data needed for prudent and efficient operation of the facilities can drown in the flood.
“At the same time, it’s important to have adequate and timely information in areas which are significant for safety.”
The project was initiated last summer – companies from various parts of the offshore industry participated in the work.
