Caspian producers enact emergency response scenarios

ASTRAKHAN, RussiaLukoil has participated in joint emergency response practice procedures as part of the Caspian-2016 international exercise.

The other parties included representatives of the ministries of emergency situations forRussia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran. Also in attendance was Vladimir Stepanov, Russia’s first deputy minister of emergency situations.

The main goal of the exercise was to pool the efforts of all countries involved in E&P in theCaspian Sea to respond to a serious incident.

Lukoil personnel and emergency rescue teams from the five countries practiced joint actions in response to simulated accidents at theYuri Korchagin and Vladimir Filanovsky fields in the Russian sector, and at the corporate training center.

The emergency simulated at the Yuri Korchagin complex included a fire on the offshore platform, an oil pipeline leak, and an oil spill on the sea surface.

This year’s exercise involved new equipment and transport, the standby/rescue vesselBumi-Naryan-Mar, and rapid deployment of oil spill booms and oil skimmers suitable for ice conditions.
