Statoil commissions Hydratight for pipeline connector services

Statoil has awarded Hydratight a four-year contract to provide connector products and services for remote pipeline repairs worldwide.

STAVANGER, NorwayStatoil has awarded Hydratight a four-year contract to provide connector products and services for remote pipeline repairs worldwide.

The company’s MORGRIP contingency connectors will be the main mechanical repair method withinStatoil’s Pipeline Repair and Subsea Intervention (PRSI) pool.

Under the contract, which carries options for further extensions, Hydratight will supply these services both to Statoil and to PRSI pool members, including new remote/diverless pipeline repair solutions and engineering support.

Alain Wald, ESSAI regional leader at Hydratight, said: “Statoil manages more than 15,000 km [9,320 mi] of subsea pipeline in the North Sea alone… The connectors we supply are our most sophisticated products and designed specifically for remote repairs.”

Each connector is said to undergo stringent activation and installation testing, in workshop settings and simulation environments. They are also claimed to have a 30-year design life and comprehensive third-party approvals, including DNV GL and ABS.
