LONDON - Independent Oil & Gas (IOG) expects the Transocean semisub Sedco 704 to spud the Skipper appraisal well in the UK northern North Sea on July 22.

Skipper (IOG 100%) is a heavy oil discovery in block 9/21a: drilling should take around 22 days to complete.

The vertical well will be drilled to 5,600 ft (1,707 m) with the main aim of retrieving good quality reservoir condition oil samples in order to optimize the Skipper field development plan.

It will also drill two underlying mapped reservoir structures in the Lower Dornoch and Maureen formations.

IOG anticipates initial results in mid-August.
