WEST PERTH, Australia – Quadrant Energy expects the jackup Noble Tom Prosser to spud the Driftwood-1 commitment well early next week offshore Western Australia, according to partner Tap Oil.
The location is 1 km (0.6 mi) north of the Rosily-1A exploratory well which had minor oil shows, in the Barrow sub-basin of the Northern Carnarvon basin.
Quadrant is looking to test the Early Cretaceous sandstones of the Mardie Greensand Member, Birdrong Member, and Zeepaard Formation in a low-relief, northeast-southwest trending four-way dip closure. Estimated cost of the well is A$15.47 million ($11.6 million).
Elsewhere in the Carnarvon basin, the two companies are partners in the shallow-water TL/2 production license and TP/7 exploration permit 40 km (25 mi) north-northeast of Onslow.
This year’s work program includes abandonment of the Airlie Island oil storage facility and the Chervil 5 and 6 wells. In addition, the partners are considering removal of the Chervil platform next year.
