LONDON – National Oilwell Varco and GE Oil & Gas have agreed to jointly provide integrated solutions for FPSO topsides, probably starting early next year.

NOV engineers and manufactures fluid pumping, treatment and processing systems; composite piping systems; cranes and deck machinery; and disconnectable turret mooring systems for FPSOs and relatedvessels.

The company has also installed and commissioned equipment on hundreds of vessels in numerous shipyards for theoil and gas drilling industry.

GE Oil & Gas has developed technologies for offshore power generation, subsea trees, manifold and connection systems, and processing systems.

The new partnership will offer topsides systems with repeatable deliveries, scale economies and standardized interfaces, which the two companies claim will reduce the risk of construction delays and cost overruns fordeepwater oil and gas clients.

Additionally, their service will incorporate digital solutions, designed to optimize performance and provide predictive analytics through the life of the FPSOs, allowing them to adapt to a wider array of operating parameters.

This approach, they add, should help maximize life-cycle efficiencies and drive down the cost ofoffshore field development.

Clay Williams, NOV’s chairman, president and CEO, said: “We can materially improve deepwater production economics by industrializing the supply chain and standardizing complex interfaces between our complementary topside equipment.”

Lorenzo Simonelli, president and CEO of GE Oil & Gas, added: “With this agreement, we are bringing together capabilities and expertise from GE Oil & Gas and NOV to better serve our customers and overcome oil and gas offshore industry challenges.

“Digital solutions will add even more value to the agreement. Digitization has become not only a competitive differentiator but increasingly, a necessity to help our customers make their businesses stronger long term.”

NOV and GE Oil & Gas will remain independent suppliers of equipment, services, and systems.
