EAST KILBRIDE, UKNEL has upgraded its wet gas test facility, said to be the sole commercial test service in the UK that can generate wet gas flows using water and oil simultaneously.

The facility has been designed to more accurately simulate the increased flow rates experienced duringoffshore production and processing, thereby reducing uncertainty and helping to minimize the operator’s financial exposure.

Operators and meter manufacturers in the UK will no longer have to use services overseas, NEL adds, as it can test meters at a wider operating range.

The facility can achieve dry gas flow rates of more than 2,000 cu m/hr (70,629 cu ft/hr), with simultaneous water and oil injection rates each of 90 cu m/hr (3,178 cu ft/hr).

These rates, in pressures up to 63 bar (914 psi), allow improved simulation of field conditions, NEL claims.

Dr. Phil Mark, group manager for testing services, said: “The increased flow rates mean thatwet gas flow meter manufacturers will be able to test larger meters than they have in the past. The facility will also be of interest to operators that are looking for independent validation and calibration of flow meters before they are installed in the field.”
