OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has authorized Statoil and its partners in the Gullfaks production license 050 to start-up the Rutil subsea facilities.
Rutil is a gas-filled structure on Gullfaks South in the Tampen area of the North Sea.
It is under development via a standard subsea template with four well slots (subsea template Q) and two gas production wells. The template is connected to infrastructure on Gullfaks A for processing and export.
Statoil’s development plan, submitted in 2014, estimated in-place volumes at 17.9 bcm of gas and 2 MMcm of condensate, with around 11.9 MMboe recoverable.
NPD says the development will cost just under NOK3.8 billion ($457 million), way less than the original estimate of NOK4.863 billion ($584 million).
Production is expected to start in August or September, three months earlier than forecast.
In theBarents Sea, NPD has authorized Eni Norge to use the semisubmersible Scarabeo 8 to drill exploration well, the first on PL 226 which was awarded in 1997. The license takes in part of block 7220/1. The well location is around 250 km (155 mi) north of Hammerfest.
