PFLNG SATU reaches Kanowit gas field offshore Malaysia

Petronas’ first floating LNG vessel has reached the Kanowit gas field offshore Malaysia, the company posted on social media.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Petronas’ first floating LNG vessel, PFLNG SATU, has reached the Kanowit gas field offshore Malaysia, the company posted on social media.

The vessel set sail from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. shipyard in Okpo, South Korea, to the Kanowit gas field, 180 km (112 mi) offshore Sarawak on May 14.

“After [a] 2,120 nautical mi (2,439 mi /3,925 km) journey to ‪Malaysia, on the 30 May 2016, the ‪‎PFLNG 1 has finally reached its destination,” Petronas posted.

The vessel measures 365 m (1,198 ft) in length, 60 m (197 ft) in width, and 33 m (108 ft) in height. It is designed to operate in water depths between 70 m and 200 m (230 ft and 656 ft) and has a processing capacity of 1.2 million metric tons of LNG per year.

Construction began with the official steel cutting in June 2013 followed by the launching of the hull in April 2014.

Petronas announced theKanowit-1 well gas discovery, located in block SK306 offshore Sarawak, in 2005.
