OSLO, Norway – BP Norge has approval to remove the top deck of the 2/4-G platform in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

ConocoPhillips Skandinavia operates the Ekofisk oil field, the first to come onstream offshore Norway.

Ekofisk 2/4 G was a riser platform in the BP-operated Valhall license that connected the Valhall and Ekofisk via two 20-in. pipelines, one for oil and one for gas.

From Ekofisk, the oil was transported to Teesside, northeast England, and the gas to Emden on the German coast.

Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway said activity to remove the deck would start this month.

In addition, PSA has sanctioned Tullow Oil’s request to drill an exploration well in block 16/5 in production license 776, 37 km (23 mi) southeast of theEdvard Grieg field in the central Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersibleBorgland Dolphin will drill well 16/5-6 on the Rome prospect. Operations could start this month and may last for 30 days, depending on whether a discovery follows.
