Vietnam launches new jackup, block B gas development

VUNG TAU CITY, Vietnam – PV Shipyard has held a ceremony to mark completion of the Tam Dao 05 jackup on schedule to Petrovietnam and Vietsovpetro.

The rig – the second built for Vietsovpetro followingTam Dao 03 – is due to be ready for the handover in August.

Last month Petrovietnam held a ceremony to launch the offshore block B – O Mon projects.

These are designed to produce gas and condensate from the block B, 48/95 and 52/97 field development to power plants in Kein Gang and O Mon for electricity in southern Vietnam from 2020-2040.

Petrovietnam, PVEP, MOECO, and PTTEP plan to invest $6.8 billion in the project, which will feature a main platform and one accommodation platform, a condensate vessel, and around 750 production wells.

Construction of the associated block B – O Mon gas pipelines will cost $ 1.2 billion. The 431-km (268-mi) lines will have a design capacity of 20.3 MMcm, of which the sealine section will be around 295 km (183 mi) and 28-in. diameter.

This will transport gas from block B to the landfall station in An Minh/ Kien Giang province.
