HONG KONGPrimeline Energy Holdings and CNOOC have agreed to progress to a second phase of exploration commitments for block 33/07 in the South China Sea.

This follows drilling of two exploration wells last year – LS23-1-1 and LS30-3-1 – both of which encountered good sandstone reservoirs with gas shows. Neither, however, was commercial.

Primeline has agreed to relinquish 25% of the 4,397-sq km (1,697-sq mi) contract area under the petroleum contract.

The concession surrounds block 25/34 which contains the producing LS36-1 gas field. The partners would look to tie in a discovery to the facilities.
